MicroStation CONNECT I - 2D Drafting Basics Using Either MicroStation or OpenRoads

This course teaches the basics of 2D MicroStation drafting using example highway projects. Learn how to draw civil engineering details using Placement, Modify, Manipulation and Grouping tools with AccuDraw. Also work with Cells and References. The course teaches the workflow for creating sheets including Drawing Models and Sheet Models. Learn how to annotate in the Drawing Model and work with the Sheet Models in the Sheet Index, including how to plot the sheets. This course is a prerequisite to OpenRoads I.

Description

2D Drafting Basics using either MicroStation or OpenRoads

This course teaches the basics of 2D drafting using either the MicroStation or OpenRoads software applications. Both OpenRoads and MicroStation users can take this class since all the MicroStation functionality is built into OpenRoads. Using an example highway projects, students learn how to draw civil engineering details using Placement, Modify, Manipulation and Grouping tools with AccuDraw. They also work with Cells and References. The course teaches the workflow for creating sheets including Drawing Models and Sheet Models. Students then learn how to annotate in the Drawing Model and work with the Sheet Models in the Sheet Index, including how to plot the sheets. This course is a prerequisite to OpenRoads I.

The User InterfaceLearn how to navigate MicroStation CONNECT’s new ribbon interface to find all your old familiar tools in the new user environment. Learn handy shortcuts that save time by minimizing the need to change ribbon workflows or ribbon tabs to quickly find the tools you need.

LevelsLearn how to use Level Display to control the display of graphics as well as handy shortcuts to control levels by element. Learn the concept of ByLevel symbology and how to control Symbology Overrides via the Level Manager.

Basic Drawing Tools and Precision DrawingLearn basic design file concepts needed to create a DGN file and begin drawing in MicroStation. Use Basic drawing tools and the AccuDraw interface along with Modify, Manipulate and Grouping tools to draw civil details with precision.

Cells - Learn how cells can save time when placing standard details and symbols.  Discover the different types of cells and their unique properties as well as how to place and scale cells using the different placement options for active, point, terminator and pattern cells.

Measure Tools - Discover how to use MicroStation’s measuring tools to measure distance, radius, length and area and learn how to obtain 2D planar measurements versus 3D slope measurements.

Patterning Tools - Discover how to use cells to pattern areas to represent various materials (asphalt, concreate, gravel, etc.) and linear elements to represent special graphics like fences, hedges, tree lines, walls, etc.) Learn when to use the various pattern methods (element, flood, points, difference, etc.) and how to pattern associatively around text and other graphics.

References - Learn how to attach other DGN models or AutoCAD DWG graphics as background information to your active MicroStation model. Discover how to use live nesting to attach multiple references and work with these references in a hierarchical order. Learn how to clip references as well as control reference displays and reference levels.

Drawing Composition - Create sheets by placing Named Boundaries and learn the different options for placing Named Boundaries, including placing them from Drawing Boundaries in sheet seeds. Create both Drawing and Sheet models for plan sheets and learn the difference between these models and how they are used in the sheet creation workflow.  Discover how to show details on sheets at different scales using Reference tools.  Learn how to use the Sheet Index to uniquely number sheets and discover how to re-order and re-sequence sheets and have this information automatically update on the sheet border.

Text and Dimensioning (Annotation Tools) - Learn how to use the Drawing Scale and the Annotation Scale lock to annotate Drawing models.  Discover how to create and use Text Styles and the different options for placing text and notes, as well as some time-saving tips using Text Favorites.  Set up a Dimension Style to use with Dimension tools to place linear and radial dimension.   Learn how to dimension scaled reference graphics on a drawing so that they dimension true size.

Plotting - Learn how to create both a single sheet plot as well as batch plot using Print Organizer. Discover how to plot directly from the Sheet Index using the sheet sequencing to create a Print Set and use Print Styles to format the sheets according to your deliverable standards.
