This program provides a basic overview of native Kentucky forest trees and how to recognize them in spring and summer or fall and winter. The program will be approximately 50% classroom study and 50% field investigations.

Basic morphological characteristics & tree identification terminology
How to use a simplified dichotomous tree key using leaves as the primary field identification characteristic
How to identify trees from leaf shape, bark, fruit and other useful field characteristics
Tree Identification resources for Kentucky trees
Interesting aspects of native trees that will help you remember them
Ecological significance, habitat and forest structure
